DESIGN/ CITY/ FUTURE

exploring innovative urbanisms

This weeklong design and future thought workshop focused on Wellington 2038 brings together Massey University’s Living Lab and Spatial Design students, AUT’s Emergent Ecologies Lab and the Wellington City Council to workshop issues relevant to the design of the future city. As emergent designers, you are asked to research critical conditions –including climate changes, sealevel rises, social shifts – that will affect Wellington urban form and function in 2038 and beyond, and develop innovative urban interventions, social technologies or architectural/landscape infrastructures that attend to future circumstances. Key issues to consider include zerocarbon urbanism, energy generation, ecological integration, adaptive responses to environmental changes and innovative responses to social change.
